“In the arts, as in life, everything is possible provided it is based on love.” ~ Marc Chagall

Though the pandemic has put a damper on group rehearsals and live performances, we remain a community that celebrates the arts and the ability of everyone to create meaning and joy!

FINAL FofH Mural High Res.jpg

THE FACES OF HOPE MURAL debuted in the Fellowship Hall of First UMC in October 2017 and highlights through the art of photography and graphic design the signature social justice ministry of First United Methodist Church known as Muffin Ministry, a feeding program that serves more than 100 people each Sunday who come seeking shelter from the elements, breakfast, conversation, and referrals to supportive agencies. The mural incorporates the photographs of Bill Guerrant and features photos of dedicated Muffin Ministry volunteers and fine art portraits of neighbors without shelter, some of whom had never before had a portrait of themselves to share with loved ones. While other church initiatives strive to address the root causes of hunger and homelessness, Muffin Ministry consistently offers the biblical “cup of cold water” to all-comers, rain or shine, fifty-two Sundays per year. For 18 months in 2018-19, participants who have experienced homelessness met weekly to create this stage and film documentary about life on the street, featuring those who have been there. Click here for the documentary trailer and more information from The Playworks Group.
