It is a part of the church's DNA to help meet the basic needs of our neighbors who cannot meet them for themselves. Every week, we have the privilege of providing assistance to hundreds of folks in our community.
Muffin Ministry
Sunday mornings at 8:00 in the Fellowship Hall, the Muffin Ministry serves a nourishing breakfast to some 200 of our neighbors in need. Everyone is welcome. Contact Ann Huskey in the church office for more information. Contribute memorials gifts to Muffin Ministry at charlottefirst.org/contribute.
Men's Clothing Closet
During the Muffin Ministry on Sunday mornings, men in need of clothing can browse the closet for casual and dress items, and coats in the winter. To donate, contact the church office.
Room In The Inn
During the winter months, we partner with Roof Above (formerly, the Urban Ministry Center) to provide shelter and food for people without homes. Each site offers a warm, safe place to sleep and serves three meals (dinner, breakfast, and bag lunch). To volunteer, contact Joy Cleary in the church office.
The Room in the Inn sheltering ministry begins at First UMC on January 11, 2026. First UMC Charlotte will host overnight guests from Roof Above every two weeks on Sunday nights. We will need lots of help! Joy Cleary is the coordinator and can be reached at joclear24@gmail.com. We need groups or individuals to host the dinners (provide supper and clean up; provide breakfast foods). Every Sunday that we host we will ask for volunteers to help set up the beds in the Fellowship Hall after church. These dates are available: January 25, February 8 and 22, and March 8 and 22. Please let Joy know if you, your family, or your group would like to serve on a particular date. Thank you!
