A Gift of Space

Since its inception, First UMC, Charlotte, has understood its position at the heart of Uptown as central to its mission. Vital to that mission is the physical space of its building and the opportunity it affords the congregation to engage with the community. The building and location of the congregation allow the congregation to create strategic partnerships that further its mission.

First’s mission is not just a mission. It is a commitment.  It is rooted in liberating love.  That mission states: Because of God's liberating love in Christ, First’s will pursue justice, embrace inclusion, advance education, and promote the arts. This fourfold mission means that First’s intentionally aligns itself and opens its doors for occasional events that further this mission but, more rewardingly, decides to share space daily with community partners who rent offices and other spaces to enhance their work.

Through this shared space, First and these partners improve each other and make the kingdom that much clearer for us all to see.
